Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care Announces “Pleasant Holidays”
The long-standing Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care Festival of Wreaths fundraiser has been postponed until December of 2021 due to restrictions caused by Covid-19. Pleasant Holidays, a virtual fund raiser, has been created to help fill the funding gap created by this postponement.
“The pandemic put services offered to our participants in our buildings on hold in March,” says Executive Director Vickers, “but the vital services we provide to our participants continued. Our staff has called every participant, seven days a week since March asking how they are feeling and if they need anything. After talking to the same person, every day for almost seven months, we have become even closer to our participants and their families.”
The Festival of Wreaths would have celebrated its 21st anniversary in December and is the major, annual fundraiser for Pleasant Day. The event was created to raise funds to help provide support and care for seniors, including funding to create special holidays for those participants receiving services from the facility. The festival traditionally features dozens of handmade wreaths displayed in the halls of the facility and then sold via a silent auction. Attendees of the event are also entertained by a live auction, great food and music. All of this will be back bigger and better in 2021. “Pleasant Holidays” is a virtual fundraiser created to meet the needs in 2020 with the goal to ensure the facility’s participants receive the special holiday traditions they have come to expect from their Pleasant Day family.
Past sponsors, wreath makers and auction donors, as well as the public are being asked to consider a donation to the Pleasant Holidays project. Those who give a $25 donation will be entered into a drawing for a special wreath created by Mike Bramble of Florals Unique. Donors will receive a chance to win the drawing for each increment of $25 they give.
“The pandemic has affected everyone but has been particularly hard on the elderly and those with underlying medical problems, like all of the Pleasant Day participants,” said Mrs. Vickers. “It is more important than ever to continue our tradition of providing something special for Pleasant Day participants for the holidays. We have always gone all out at this time of the year and we will continue to have wrapped gifts handed out by Santa in addition to the traditional special meals at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.”
The meals will be supplied by Tolley’s Catering and will have real turkey, real ham and New Year’s black-eyed pea soup, and all the “trimmings” which will include homemade rolls and pie.
Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care provides an environment to allow people to remain as independent as they can for as long as possible. Nursing care under a physician’s direction, increases the quality of life for participants by allowing them to remain at home or with family for a longer time. With over 22 years of experience with persons who have chronic medical conditions, including Alzheimer’s, Pleasant Day is the natural step between healthy living and a 24-hour care facility.
